Design

The most inspiring part of the process, where there are no limits to the imagination.

The maker drawing shoe designs in pen, watercolour sketches of finished models spread across the bench

With the measurements taken, the shoe can be imagined. We sketch together: the model, the line of the toe, the height of the quarters, where the lacing sits, how much of the foot is covered.

Leather is chosen in the hand rather than from a chart — full-grain calf, kid, suede, shell — along with colour, lining, edge finish, stitching and thread, and the sole the pair will walk on.

Anything drawn can be made. If an idea will not hold up in wear, we will say so and find the version that does.

Bring an idea, a photograph or a colour.

Even a half-formed thought is enough to start drawing from.
